Which Area in Phuket is Perfect for You

16 October 2017

The perfect holiday experience is highly subjective and it always pays to do a little research on your destination beforehand, especially if you’re travelling to a large island like Phuket. With more than a dozen beaches that each have unique characteristics, make your stay as enjoyable as possible by learning which ones cater to your needs and preferences.

Whether you’re after peace and quiet, or are seeking some adventure on your travels, you’ll find what you’re looking for in Phuket. Learn more about the main beaches and what they have to offer below.

Patong Beach

Visiting Patong Beach and Bangla Road are the iconic Phuket experiences. Situated on Phuket’s west coast, the district is famous for its high concentration of clubs, restaurants, bars and street vendors. While the nightlife is what gets all the attention, the beach is still spectacular. There are plenty of shopping malls and spas in the area as well.

When you choose to stay at Holiday Inn Resort Phuket in Patong beach, all the action is just a stone’s throw away. Patong Beach is the place to be if you want to be right in the thick of the entertainment district.

Kata Beach

Kata Beach is perfect for travelers who want to kick back and relax with plenty of entertainment options. It’s much quieter than Patong but there are still plenty of great nightclubs, bars and fantastic restaurants.

Kata tends to draw a diverse crowd and is quite popular amongst families. If you’re planning to surf or dive on your visit, this is the right beach for you. Despite its popularity, the beach is extensive, which means that it rarely feels crowded even during the high season.

Karon Beach

If you want a taste of Patong without all the chaos of Bangla Road, Karon Beach is the place to be.  As Phuket’s third largest beach, it’s famous for being home to a range of luxury resorts and hotels.

Contrary to popular belief, you’ll find that Karon Beach offers the best shopping bargains rather than Patong.  However, the area is fairly large and since everything isn’t centralized, it can be a bit of a chore to get around. Circumvent this by renting a bike or car for your holiday!

Kamala Beach

While Kamala Beach is quite close to Patong, it offers a very different vibe and atmosphere. It’s well known for being slow-paced, quiet and relaxed. The nightlife is subdued, so if you’re after a party-filled holiday, Kamala Beach won’t cut it for you.

On the other hand, if you’re looking to get away from it all and just enjoy some downtime at a beach with a fantastic view, Kamala Beach is perfect. It’s also one of the few places in Phuket where you can find restaurants right on the beach.

Bangtao Beach

Bangtao Beach is the second largest beach on the island.  The main area of the beach is home to several lagoons, around which lie several luxury resorts. Like Patong, Bang Tao Beach is peppered with hills that have villas with envious views of the island.  If staying in such a property sounds appealing to you, we’d certainly recommend checking out Bang Tao. Keep in mind that it’s 11km from Patong, so the area is quite secluded from the island’s main activity hub.

Nai Harn Beach

If you want to experience Phuket like a local, Nai Harn Beach is your best option. You can enjoy a relaxing stay in nature here without too much hustle and bustle.  Nature lovers will admire Nai Harn’s lush forestation and beach. The area is also very popular among scuba divers and surfers. On the other hand, there are not many shopping and nightlife options.

Surin Beach

Surin Beach is arguably the most beautiful Phuket has to offer, with its pristine white sand and natural splendor. It’s popular amongst celebrities looking for a quiet getaway. The shops and boutiques here, while scarce, tend towards high-end fashion and design. If you want to escape and relax in total privacy, Surin Beach is definitely one of the best places in Phuket to do so.
